Dollar Tree, the store that promises one-dollar prices for everything, has been making waves in the meat world with its incredible offer of steaks for just one dollar.
But what lies beneath these steaks that defy all expectations? Many people has been trying to decipher this mystery of Dollar Tree’s $1 steaks and now we could have an answer.
The one dollar price mystery
First, you should know that, yes, those steaks really cost just one dollar. At Dollar Tree, unlike its competitors like Dollar General or Family Dollar, there are no surprises at the cash register.
Dollar Tee’s one-dollar ribeye steak offerEverything is priced at one dollar, plus applicable state taxes. But how can they offer beef at this seemingly ludicrous price?
The meat behind the mystery
Here’s the key: these are genuine ribeye steaks. Sure, they don’t come from the most exclusive grazing lands, but they are 100% pure beef, pre-seasoned in a delightful brine solution.
Then, can we trust the quality? According to Houston’s ABC13 news station, Dollar Tree’s Stampede brand is also found in other major stores. So, there’s more than meets the eye.
The local phenomenon
In Houston, where people know how to appreciate a good steak, Dollar Tree employees have claimed that these steaks are so popular they fly off the shelves.
WCPO reports the same trend in Cincinnati. It seems not everyone is daunted by the idea of buying meat at a one-dollar store.
The experts’ verdict
How do these Dollar Tree steaks taste? WCPO conducted a taste test where a group of firefighters tried these steaks alongside $12 per pound butcher shop ribeye and $9 per pound supermarket ribeye.
Dollar Tree’s steaks, with their 3.5 ounces each and a price of $4.50 per pound, surprisingly didn’t win the test, but the firefighters didn’t dismiss them.
“It’s not terrible,” was their verdict. On the other hand, ABC13 conducted their own taste test without costly comparisons. Their tasters arrived at a more positive verdict, considering the steaks to be good for the price. One taster commented, “I’m very surprised. It’s better than I thought it would be, absolutely.”
A touch of culinary inspiration
While these budget-friendly steaks won’t rival upscale establishments like Ruth’s Chris or Outback Steakhouse, they are suggested to be ideal for making fajitas or stir-fries. Even the Tampa Bay Times, which highlighted the “deep, meaty flavor” of these steaks, also suggested they would be perfect for cheesesteaks.
If you have a tight budget but still crave a good steak, Dollar Tree’s steaks could be a surprising option. While they may not be the epitome of luxury, they are certainly more than you would expect for just a dollar.
